Elite and their Responsibility in the Age of Corona
This post has been written by Malik Ahmad Jalal.
A Tradition from Prophet Dhu al Kifl:
“The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the Inequities of the Selfish and the Tyranny of evil men Blessed is he who, in the name of Charity and Goodwill Shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness For he is truly his brother’s keeper and finder of lost children”
To be an Elite is to be Accountable for a domain; your family, a business, a ministry or even a country. Allah has entrusted in us the responsibility to look after others. Thus their growth happens through us, facilitated by us. It is a great privilege to have the position of an Elite.
Elites can act as the Blessed Shepherd, out of goodwill protect the weak and guide them through this valley of life. Or they can be selfish and tyrannical to those they are responsible for.
In the Age of Corona, some Pakistani elites returned to Karachi, attended a beach party and infected many others. And yet another privileged person neglected his duty by sending his infected housekeeper to the village, knowing well that he would infect countless others.
Playing with others precious lives, both self-centered and irresponsible.
These testing times requires empathy, collaboration to defeat the virus. And for the Elites to be like the Shepherd, to protect those within their domains and not put them at risk, keep them in jobs even when the economy is weakening, if only because we have been blessed with more to sustain the harsh times.
But if our privileged Elites act in the same selfish manner as forewarned in the Old Testament, then their fate has been made clear by Allah…
“And I will strike down upon thee with great Vengeance and Furious Anger And you will know My Name is the Lord when I lay My Vengeance upon thee”
To be the Shepherd Elite, Or the Selfish Elite. The Choice is Ours!
